The Man Who Replaced Norman Rockwell
Steve Frye, a 1978 graduate of National American University was on his way to Indianapolis, Indiana to take a position with The Saturday Evening Post. During the 1,100 mile trip, Norman Rockwell, the most renowned contributor to The Saturday Evening Post and the acclaimed artist who was and is best recognized for his everyday life characterizations of Americana, died. Frye was essentially hired as a “Special Sections Art Director” for The Saturday Evening Post, and he put together a memorial issue to commemorate Rockwell and his contributions to the magazine and to popular art.
As a college student, Frye intended to combine a degree in marketing with his artistic talents, with hopes of building his own advertising agency. Today, Frye and Associates has designed cost integration and production programs for more than 200 popular magazines titles including TV Guide and Disney Publications. Printing, paper and distribution contracts were designed by Frye for numerous popular magazines including AARP’s Modern Maturity…a $500,000,000 account.
